Wilson Papakaainga

In partnership with the Te Ahiwaru Housing team, we supported the Wilson whaanau bring their kaainga aspirations to life. Their papakaainga comprises two houses designed to accomodate three whaanau groups. The design process was underpinned by Te Ahiwaru’s design principles that acknowledge the cultural landscape and koorero tuku iho of Ihumaatao, and maximises social spaces for whaanau to gather and live together. A limited construction budget led to our design team exploring simple construction methods and technologies to best reflect the environment the Wilson whaanau for their papakaainga.
